MEXICO - AKUMAL

Chuck Stevens reported that he has sent out a notice to all NACD cave divers and instructors in the immediate area concerning recent problems encountered with line arrow wars, line changes, and stolen safety items.

Chuck has proposed that this notice be published in the next journal to inform all members of the situation, as foreign instructors go to that area to conduct courses and guides.

Changes to Line and Line markers

Individuals are altering established line routes and line markers to suit their personal preference.  Consistency must be maintained.  In the interest of safety, any changes to line and line markers in the caves must first be presented to the appointed NACD Safety Officer for review.

Safety equipment has recently been moved from caves.  As a reminder, at no time should anything be altered or taken from a cave (e.g., stage bottles, personal line markers, safety or jump reels used in complex diving planning, etc.).

Any violation of these protocols should be reported to the NACD Safety Officer.
